Three awards for cartonboards

Three packages made from Metsä Board’s cartonboards have won awards in the 2013 Pro Carton ECMA best carton packaging Awards.

The winner of the sustainability award, De Beukelaer’s ChocOlé chocolate sticks, printed by Van Genechten, was made of Metsä Board’s Simcote folding boxboard. Simcote was also used for the winner of the food category, Danone’s Party Packaging Lovely Cookies, printed by Remmert Dekker. Carta Solida made the winning carton in the non-food category.

“We are very proud of the role that our products played in the winning entries,” said Markku Romano, VP cartonboard sales, Metsä Board EMEA. “We’re pleased that the sustainability of cartonboard is recognised by both the carton makers as well as brand owners concerned, in both their desire to use a renewable raw material and in its easy recyclability. The winners also used unusual and eye-catching constructions, requiring boards that performed well in production and in use.”

Out of 104 entries, 33 packages were chosen as finalists. Out of these, eight packages in four categories were made of Metsä Board’s cartonboards. The judges evaluated all entries against the following criteria: structural design, graphic design, marketing concept, innovation, carton manufacturing sophistication, packaging performance, machineability, processing and handling. The winners were published on 19 September in ECMA Congress in Dubrovnik.
